Artist Teixiera Barbosa's quietly poetic photographs employ a muted palette and close range angles to present an intimate, first person view of the artist in the studio. Although Barbosa works primarily as a photographer, the careful manipulation of negative space and emotive use of color and light recalls the medium of painting. Her photographs are both highly detailed, yet refined in their geometric simplicity, indicating a sophisticated eye and well developed artistic vision. Deeply influenced by her strong friendships, Barbosa reflects her need to connect into her artwork by inviting the viewer directly into her personal space. In creating this shared experience, Barbosa helps the viewer to understand not only her individual aesthetic, but everyday existence. However, Barbosa's work is equally introspective for its intensely quiet and personal mood. In fact, by adeptly choosing certain angles, Barbosa not only allows the viewer to join her in the studio, but, for a brief moment, experience her life first hand.
Born in Marco de Canavezes, Portugal, the artist now lives and works in Oporto.
